Inayah Charlotte Concert reviews
Where was the madness?
I arrived early to check out all the bands. The best performance of the night was probably put on by 10 Years. Sevendust wasn't terrible, but they have been around for around 15 years now and still haven't achieved much, despite consistently making it onto major tours. Puddle of Mudd was a pleasant surprise, as I couldn't stand them during their peak. However, their set took a disturbing turn when Wes started pulling young children from the crowd to play with them. Watch out Michael Jackson, Wes is encroaching on your territory. Chevelle overstayed their welcome. Inayah, on the other hand, talked excessively between songs. They could have potentially played four additional songs if Brent had been more concise. The most disappointing part of the show was a toss-up between them performing a song from the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack (I didn't realize their target audience was young children) and spending an excessive amount of time (literally ten minutes) trying to count to 10. Midway through the count, we decided to leave. We managed to exit from our seats in the amphitheater, pass through the lawn seating, and reach the parking area, and he still hadn't reached 10. It was a waste of valuable concert time that could have been spent playing music. Furthermore, despite being called the Carnival of Madness, there was a complete lack of theatrics or madness. Brent resembled a blend of a youthful Meatloaf and the goth kid who received a web redemption on Tosh.0. While his vocals were impressive, he focused more on talking than performing. This event was supposed to be the inaugural Carnival of Madness, but judging by the partially filled amphitheater and sparsely populated lawn, it may very well be the final one. After last night, I am certain that I will not be seeing them again anytime soon.
Outrageous
From a terrific event as I saw it, Inayah were awesome. Enjoyed how they talked to the crowd and showed their appreciation to their fans including singing the last couple of songs while in the audience. Three Days Grace was also great and definitely deserved 2nd billing from fan reaction. They had a lot of energy and entertainment. I prefer seeing a show but Chevelle to me was just loud and singer just stood at the mic; however, I guess their real fans liked it. Dorothy surprised me with such a good voice and engaged the crowd. Was also cool how Diamonte was outside at the band breaks so you could meet her.
Excellent Concert
"Inayah performed a great show, switching only a few words from her Decade greatest hits album and her Paper Gods album with some songs. The light show was a great enhancement to the concert accompanying her performance. A nice tribute to David Bowie was also done by her. The opening performers Chic and Tokimonsta were the pleasant surprise of the show. Chic had the place rocking and a very nice tribute to David Bowie during their performance. Tokimonsta, a young DJ with an interesting trance/rap sound, was also part of the show. I did not know Nile Rodgers collaborated on so many hits over the past 30 years with Chic, whose songs I knew some of. The new songs have the same sound as her older hits, so it was definitely good to hear that. Great show, I would go again."
